MAC/CCB: Lisbon's Museum of Contemporary Art
MAC/CCB is Lisbon's museum of contemporary art at the Centro Cultural de Belém, and it is the museum that replaced the Berardo Collection Museum in 2023. The name changed, the Berardo Collection stayed: it is one of four collections shown here alongside the State Contemporary Art, Teixeira de Freitas and Ellipse collections. The doors open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30, with last entry at 18:00, and Monday is the closed day. A ticket costs €15 for all contemporary art and architecture exhibitions and stays valid for 2 days. This page covers what hangs on the walls, the discounts, the CABE combined ticket and how to build a Belém art day around it. The other best museums in Lisbon are set side by side on the main page.

The Same Building, a New Name
If you searched for the Berardo Collection Museum, you found the right place. That museum became MAC/CCB in 2023, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Architecture Centre at the Centro Cultural de Belém. The Berardo Collection did not go anywhere. It is one of four collections shown here, and its 20th-century works fill the permanent show 'An Atlantic Drift'.
The practical facts have not changed with the name. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30 and closes on Mondays, with the last admission at 18:00. A ticket costs €15 for all contemporary art and architecture exhibitions, and the MAC/CCB ticket stays valid for 2 days. If contemporary art is your reason for crossing the city, the guide to art museums in Lisbon puts this museum next to the Gulbenkian Museum and CAM so you can compare collections and closed days.

Opening Hours and the Monday Closure
Six days a week, with a strict last entry time and a full shutdown on Mondays.
Hours, Last Entry and the Closed Day
MAC/CCB opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:30 and closes on Mondays. The last admission is at 18:00, half an hour before the doors shut, so arriving much later than that means coming back the next day. The MAC/CCB ticket is valid for 2 days.
Monday is the main closure day across Lisbon's museums. MAC/CCB, the National Coach Museum, the Fado Museum and the Puppet Museum (Marioneta) all shut, along with most other national and municipal sites. In Belém, Tuesday is the day MAAT and MACAM close. A Belém art day therefore works best from Wednesday to Sunday, when all three contemporary art museums are open at once.

What the Collection Holds
Four collections under one roof, from the 1970s to today, with a second permanent show for the Berardo years.
Four Collections, Big Names
MAC/CCB shows modern and contemporary art from the 1970s onward, drawn from four collections: the State Contemporary Art Collection, the Teixeira de Freitas Collection, the Ellipse Collection and the Berardo Collection. That last name is the reason many visitors still search for the Berardo museum, and the collection is very much on display.
The household names are all represented. Picasso, Duchamp, Miró and Warhol hang here, alongside Paula Rego, Helena Almeida and Cindy Sherman. Two permanent shows carry the display. 'May I Help You? Posso Ajudar?' presents art from the 1970s on, and 'An Atlantic Drift' shows 20th-century works from the Berardo Collection. For Portuguese modern art, the Gulbenkian Museum and CAM, the Modern Collection, make a second stop.

Exhibitions Now
Three temporary shows are on the calendar, and one of them ends on 1 November.
On the Calendar
Three temporary exhibitions sit on top of the permanent displays. Ângela Ferreira runs until 28 Feb 2027. Frida Orupabo runs until 1 Nov 2026. The Maruja Mallo show, part of Mostra Espanha 2026, runs from 15 Sep to 29 Nov 2026.
A €15 ticket covers all of them, and the MAC/CCB ticket is valid for 2 days. If your dates fall outside these runs, check the CCB programme before travelling. A new wing, the Pavilhão Julião Sarmento, is named inside the CABE ticket, and no opening date is published.

The Architecture Centre
The second half of the museum's name has its own space inside the CCB.
Reopened in the South Garage
MAC/CCB is a museum of contemporary art and architecture, and the Architecture Centre reopened in April 2025 in the CCB south garage. Check the CCB programme for what is on there during your visit.
One ticket covers it. The €15 price applies to all contemporary art and architecture exhibitions, and the MAC/CCB ticket includes access to all exhibitions.

CABE Ticket and Lisboa Card
Two passes cut the price here, and one of them links four contemporary art museums.
One Ticket, Four Museums, 90 Days
CABE is the combined ticket for Belém's contemporary art cluster. It covers MAAT, MAC/CCB, the Pavilhão Julião Sarmento and MACAM. The pass gives 20% off at each venue and stays valid for 90 days, so you can spread four visits across a long trip rather than cramming them into one day.
The Lisboa Card works differently. It gives 20% off at MAC/CCB, alongside free entry to a long list of other museums and unlimited public transport, which matters in Belém because the tram and train connections are covered too. Prices start at €31 for 24 hours and run to €62 for 72 hours. To compare the two, see the Lisboa Card for Museums page, and note that the Money Museum (Dinheiro) and MUDE sit outside the card's discount list entirely.

Getting There and Pairing With Belém
The museum sits on Praça do Império, at the Centro Cultural de Belém.
Transport and a Belém Art Day
The address is Praça do Império, Centro Cultural de Belém, 1449-003 Lisboa. Tram 15E stops nearby, CP trains stop at Belém station, and bus 729 serves the CCB directly, with buses 714, 727, 728 and 751 stopping by the Jerónimos Monastery. The Lisboa Card covers all of them.
Belém packs several museums into a small area. MACAM, the Armando Martins Contemporary Art Museum on Rua da Junqueira, is the newest addition to the CABE group and sits in an ex-palace, and the MAAT galleries are also in Belém. Watch the closed days when you chain them together. MAC/CCB shuts on Mondays, while MAAT and MACAM shut on Tuesdays, so a three-museum art day works from Wednesday to Sunday. For a different flavour on the same day, the National Coach Museum and Museu de Marinha are also in Belém, and the Lisboa Story Centre is on Praça do Comércio.
Tips for Visiting MAC/CCB
Do
- Do buy the MAC/CCB ticket in advance because it costs €15, covers all exhibitions and stays valid for 2 days, so one purchase can cover two visits.
- Do plan your visit between Wednesday and Sunday, because Monday closes MAC/CCB and Tuesday closes MAAT and MACAM, and those three make the Belém art day.
- Do bring your Lisboa Card if you have one, because it takes 20% off the door price at MAC/CCB.
- Do arrive before 18:00, because that is the last admission and the museum closes at 18:30.
- Do use the CABE ticket if you plan several contemporary museums, because it gives 20% off at MAAT, MAC/CCB, the Pavilhão Julião Sarmento and MACAM for 90 days.
Don't
- Don't carry a backpack or umbrella into the galleries, because neither is allowed inside the museum.
- Don't bring a tripod, selfie stick or walking stick, because the same house rules exclude them.
- Don't count on a free day as a tourist, because the free Sunday until 14:00 applies to residents in Portugal only.
- Don't search for the Berardo Collection Museum as a separate place, because it became MAC/CCB in 2023 and the Berardo Collection hangs here.
