Is the Gulbenkian Museum Open?
Yes. The museum is open, and the works that kept it shut for more than a year are finished.
Reopened on 18 July 2026
The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum reopened on Saturday 18 July 2026 after about a year and a half of works. The renovation added a new numismatics room for the coin collection. Entry was free from the reopening to 26 July, and that free period has now ended, so normal tickets apply.
The main thing to remember is the closed day. The museum and CAM both close on Tuesdays, which makes the Gulbenkian a good pick for Mondays, when the National Coach Museum and the Museu do Oriente are shut. The other closed days fall on 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May and 24-25 December.
Some third-party sites still list the museum as temporarily closed. The museum's own site carries the reopening, and its hours page shows normal daily operation apart from Tuesdays. If a price list anywhere still shows €10 ($11.15), €6 ($6.69) and €9 ($10.04), it is out of date.
If you arrive on a Tuesday, the garden stays open. The National Coach Museum is also open on Tuesdays.

Gulbenkian Museum Tickets and Prices
There are four ticket types. The €16 ($17.84) museum ticket already includes the CAM collection, which many guides miss.
The Four Tickets
The ticket structure changed with the 2026 reopening. Older guides quote €10 ($11.15) for the museum, €6 ($6.69) for CAM and €9 ($10.04) combined. Those figures are out of date. The museum's own ticket page now lists the prices in the table below.
The key point is that the €16 ($17.84) Museum ticket includes admission to the CAM collection. If you plan to see both buildings, the Museum ticket is the one to buy. The All Inclusive ticket adds the temporary exhibitions in both buildings. If you only want CAM, or only a CAM temporary exhibition, the cheaper single tickets cover that.
No Gulbenkian ticket is listed here. Buy at the museum or on the official site. You can call the museum on +351 217 823 000 if you need to confirm anything before you go. For another modern art museum, see the MAC/CCB entry ticket.
| Ticket | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Museum | €16 | The Founder's Collection and the CAM collection |
| CAM | €10 | The CAM collection and CAM temporary exhibitions |
| All Inclusive | €18 | Museum, CAM and all temporary exhibitions in both buildings |
| CAM temporary exhibitions only | €6 | Only the temporary exhibitions at CAM |

Free Entry and Discounts
Sunday afternoons are free for everybody, and under 18s never pay.
Free Days and Free Categories
Everyone enters free on Sundays from 14:00 at both the museum and CAM.
Under 18s are always free, every day. Holders of ICOM, AICA and APOM cards also enter free. Under 30s with a Cartão Gulbenkian, which is a free card, enter all exhibitions free on Saturdays between 18:00 and 21:00, during the late Saturday opening.
Discounts
The discount schedule is straightforward. Younger visitors get the biggest cut and the Lisboa Card sits in the middle. Discounts cannot be combined, so you take the single best one that applies to you.
The Lisboa Card gives 20% off, not free entry. If free museums are your goal, see which sites the card opens for nothing on the Lisboa Card for Museums page and the Free Museums in Lisbon page.

Opening Hours and Closed Days
One pattern covers the museum, CAM and the exhibitions. Tuesday is the day to avoid.
Hours at a Glance
The museum, CAM and the temporary exhibitions share one timetable: 10:00-18:00, with Saturday running late to 21:00. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing, so by 17:30 on a normal day the doors stop selling tickets. The Saturday late opening pairs well with the free under-30 window from 18:00.
This Tuesday closure differs from most of the city, where Monday is the main closed day. The MAAT also closes on Tuesdays, so a Tuesday plan should lean on the National Coach Museum or the Carmo Convent, which keep different patterns.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday, Wednesday to Friday | 10:00-18:00 |
| Saturday | 10:00-21:00 |
| Sunday | 10:00-18:00, free from 14:00 |
| Tuesday | Closed |
Annual Closed Days
Five dates in the year close the museum and CAM: 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May and 24-25 December. On every other day of the year, Tuesday included, the garden stays open from sunrise to sunset.

What the Collection Holds
The Founder's Collection is the personal collection of Calouste Gulbenkian.
The Founder's Collection
The collection covers Egyptian, Greek, Islamic, Armenian, Far Eastern and European art, gathered by Calouste Gulbenkian.
The stars most visitors come for are the René Lalique jewellery, above all the Orchid diadem and the Dragonfly, paintings by Rembrandt (the 'Portrait of an Old Man'), Monet and Renoir, and Houdon's Diana.
The renovation added a new numismatics room for the coin collection.

Gulbenkian Museum vs CAM
Two buildings, two collections, one complex and one garden.
Which One Is Which
The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum holds the Founder's Collection, the personal collection of the founder. CAM, the Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian, holds the Modern Collection, Portuguese and international art from the 20th century on. CAM moved into a new building by architect Kengo Kuma, opened in 2024,.
The collection's stars include Almada Negreiros, Paula Rego and Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. CAM also stages its own temporary exhibitions, and the €10 ($11.15) CAM ticket covers both the collection and those shows.
Practically, you do not have to choose blind. The €16 ($17.84) Museum ticket already includes the CAM collection, so seeing both buildings costs the same as the museum alone. Only the temporary exhibitions sit outside that ticket, and the €18 ($20.07) All Inclusive covers them. If modern and contemporary art is your main interest, the Art Museums in Lisbon page compares CAM with MAC/CCB and the rest of the city's art museums.

The Gulbenkian Garden
The garden is free, open daily from sunrise to sunset, and open even on Tuesdays.
A Free Green Space in Avenidas Novas
The Gulbenkian garden is free to enter. It opens every day of the year from sunrise to sunset, including the museum's closed days.

How to Get There
The complex sits at Av. de Berna 45A, between two metro stations.
Metro, Bus and Address
The address is Av. de Berna 45A, 1067-001 Lisboa, in the Avenidas Novas district near Praça de Espanha. Two metro stations serve it: São Sebastião on the blue and red lines, and Praça de Espanha on the blue line.
Six Carris bus lines stop nearby: 716, 726, 756, 746, 713 and 742. The museum phone number for directions or confirmation is +351 217 823 000.

How Long to Spend
The museum publishes no official visit duration.
Planning Your Time
Neither the museum nor CAM states how long a visit takes. What you can plan around are the fixed numbers: the doors open at 10:00, last entry is 30 minutes before closing, and Saturday gives you three extra hours until 21:00.
The €16 ($17.84) ticket includes both collections. The Lisbon museums homepage lists every site's price and closed day side by side.

Tips for Visiting the Gulbenkian
Do
- Do buy the €16 ($17.84) Museum ticket rather than the €10 ($11.15) CAM ticket, because the museum ticket already includes the CAM collection.
- Do come on a Sunday afternoon if you want to pay nothing, because entry is free for everyone from 14:00.
- Do keep Saturday evening free if you are under 30, because a free Cartão Gulbenkian gets you into all exhibitions from 18:00 to 21:00.
- Do plan the Gulbenkian for a Monday, because most Lisbon museums close Mondays and this complex stays open, closing on Tuesdays instead.
- Do use the Lisboa Card here, because it takes 20% off the ticket even though it does not make entry free.
Don't
- Don't turn up on a Tuesday, because the museum and CAM are closed all day.
- Don't rely on older price lists quoting €10 ($11.15) for the museum, because the official prices since the reopening are €16 ($17.84), €10 ($11.15), €18 ($20.07) and €6 ($6.69).
- Don't try to stack two discounts, because discounts cannot be combined and you take only the best one.
- Don't arrive after 17:30 on a normal day, because last admission is 30 minutes before the 18:00 closing.
